Royal Commission Queries

The National Committee for Professional Standards (NCPS) is a joint committee of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference (ACBC) and Catholic Religious Australia (CRA), which oversees the development of policies, principles and procedures in responding to Church-related abuse complaints.

These are contained in the document "Towards Healing" which sets out the principles that must form the basis of the Church’s response to complaints of abuse and the procedures to be followed in responding to individual complaints.

The Committee ensures pastoral care for victims of sexual and physical abuse by church personnel and develops professional standards among clergy and Religious.

For advice and assistance concerning Church-related abuse. Please get in touch with the state directors of professional standards and resource groups (see below).

For information pertaining to the Catholic Church's response to The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, please visit the Truth, Justice and Healing Council website.
