Living on the Fault Lines - Leading in a Climate of Change

2014 National Assembly, Melbourne, 23-27 June 2014

The theme for the 38th CRA National Assembly, "Living on the Fault Lines - Leading in a Climate of Change" examined the challenges facing religious life, building on last year’s exploration of religious leadership.

Keynote speakers included Cardinal João Bráz de Aviz cm, Prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, Sister Carmen Sammut msola, President of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) and Archbishop Paul Gallagher, Apostolic Nuncio to Australia.

For the second time, lay partners from different ministries were part of the programme and panel discussions as they shared their challenges and insights on working alongside religious in mission. These included Ms Angela Dewar from the Family Care Sisters, Mr Ian Hobbs of the Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea (ISMAPNG), Ms Terry Creagh of Good Samaritan Education and Mr Joe McCarthy of the Marist Brothers. Mr Francis Sullivan, CEO of the Truth, Justice and Healing Council also gave a talk on the hearings of the Royal Commission Into Institutional Responses for Child Sexual Abuse.

Overseas conferences of religious were represented by Fr Donato Cauzzi mi, Secretary to Cardinal de Aviz, Sr Lilian Lillian nd as representative for Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands, Sr Veronica Hurring dolc of CLCANZ and Sr Guilhermina Marcal fdcc of East Timor. The first day of the conference was also attended by novices and newly ordained religious.
